We interrupt this symposium

I'll get back to the global syndemic shortly, but first I really need to talk about something that really frosts my pumpkin. This happens a lot but yesterday I saw a really egregious example. They go to to interview the winning quarterback after a football game, and he interrupts the interviewer while the guy is trying to ask a question and says "I give all the credit to my lord and savior Jesus Christ, to him be all the glory."

The idea that Jesus caused this ridiculous clown to win a football game is obviously a gross insult to Christians everywhere, or they certainly ought to take it that way. On the contrary, the ludicrous Tim Tebow became a major national icon because he knelt and prayed after every touchdown or long completion. Even when it became clear that he couldn't play in the NFL teams kept signing him and playing him because he was popular with the ostensibly Christian football fans. Then he tried playing baseball and he couldn't do that either. He hasn't played football for years and he was never any good but he still does commercials.

As I have said many times, one thing you can say with absolute certainty about Bible thumpers is that they have not read the Bible. This from the Gospel According to Matthew, Chapter 6, so if you sit down to actually read the New Testament you'll get to it in the first 15 minutes.

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
