Holy Crap

CNN is trying, really trying, to break through the wall of complacency and denialism.  Yep, the global average atmospheric surface temperature is now the hottest it has been since record keeping began.

What worries me more, as it should you, is that sea surface temperatures are even farther off the charts.

Aside from the decimation of marine life, which maybe you don't care about, this means ever more powerful storms. In fact, a very unusual tropical cyclone has just formed from a tropical wave coming off the African coast, which normally does not happen until August. (Early season storms tend to form in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.) One computer model has it hitting Puerto Rico as a hurricane, which is just what they need. Meanwhile, if you live in the northern U.S., you're still coughing up soot from the wildfires that have been consuming the boreal forest in Canada. The south is enduring a sweltering heat wave in the midst of a continual barrage of tornadoes.  It's all just going to get worse.

There are specific humans who are responsible for this. Those are the sociopathic greed heads who make their billions from the fossil fuel industry, who have financed a decades long campaign to deny reality and purchase politicians who will pledge not to do anything about it. If you still don't understand what's going on, it's because they have successfully damaged your brain.

Tragically well put.

I'm traveling across the country, from AZ to MI. People are noticing, and talking about the weird weather -- incessant rains in Colorado Springs, lack of high temperatures in Tucson, droughts in Ann Arbor. And they're scared, because they know and sense that feedback loops are going to reinforce and accelerate the anomalous weather in their locales.

Young couples are choosing not to have children because, as one young man in his 30s who spent a5 months working for the NOAA in Antarctica told me, he and his wife "figure humans don't have too much more time on Earth."

We will have been a meteoric flash in the pan, on Earth for the equivalent of the last 15 minutes of December.

The least we can do is document just who those greed heads are, or were. They need to be put on the dais in the pantheon of evil monsters.

And what the hell was the tune that these Pied Pipers played that turned so many of us into credulous children?

(They didn't even get rid of any rats.)
