... but at some point he's going to have to present himself to the general electorate. The deterioration is actually accelerating. He won't be able to participate in debates with Joe Biden, and his campaign speeches are becoming a ludicrous embarrassment to anyone who isn't utterly besotted.
The latter is the puzzle however. Sure, other cults work the same way. When the apocalypse doesn't come, they just decide they miscalculated and set a new date. Whatever happens on the podium in front of them, they just see their god emperor. They can't see anything else. But it's getting to the point that his speech is largely gibberish, and it's going to keep getting worse. Also keep in mind that while the higher order functions deteriorate first, lower order functions follow. I expect to see that become obvious pretty soon. Will the party finally abandon him? I don't see how they cannot. But a whole lot has surprised me lately.

Ironic that the issue used to criticize Biden's fitness for a second term now apply increasingly to Trump. I don't know whether or not God exists, but if He does He definitely has a sense of humor.
In "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein, he says through his character, Valentine, Michael Smith, that man is the animal who laughs. Indeed, that is all we can do because there is so much ineffable horror done by men to other men. And women and children.
I had yet one more clue yesterday as to why people would support a human being as horrible as Shitler. My hairstylist is a very fine person, a wonderful artist in her spare time, of Jewish background, from Belarus. When I opined that Shitler is indeed crazy, she mentioned that she did not believe that. I explained to her that I do not vote for rapists. The entire story was news to her, and she doesn't even watch Fucks network. She believes that he did good things for the country, because we are being overrun by immigrants. (I guess it goes without saying that she immigrated in her early 20s, though she would undoubtedly reply that she did so legally.) Indeed, she does not much follow politics in at all. However, she does bring her own individual history and biases with her to what she experiences in the world, as do we all. I see someone begging for money at an intersection in Tucson, and I see an unfortunate and resourceful human being. Other people may see a "spic" or a "nigger." Perceptions are everything, and perception comes from what we have been taught.
It has been written that the floundering fathers believed that only an informed populace could guarantee that the country would be run effectively. Well, that we do not have. By and large, that we do not have. We are a late empire, filled with people who are basically asleep, and who have a feeling of entitlement for themselves only. Of course, we do not have a democracy, we have a republic, but even that cannot function when so many people are intellectually vacant.
