. . . to the whole Epstein hoohah, but I do have some personal reactions that may or may not be insightful. First, I confess to having been a bit puzzled as to why, if there's information the public ought to know, we didn't get a peep about the whole affair from either the Obama or the Biden administration. I should not have been so puzzled. Obviously, this is embarrassing to a lot of wealthy, powerful and famous men, without regard to party or creed. That does include Bill Clinton, as we have long known. The birthday book reveals that among the people who considered him a good buddy were several prominent scientists, the former British ambassador to the U.S., and wealthy financiers. (A good description of the whole thing is here.) And yes, they can lie all the want to, but that is Dump's signature. It isn't the formal "Donald J. Trump" signature he uses to sign legal documents, but it is the "Donald" he uses to sign personal notes.
It is obvious from the content of the messages that the contributors knew what he was up to, whether or not they or to what extent they may have participated personally, and they just thought it was all amusing and great fun. My favorite item is the picture of Epstein holding up a giant check signed "DJTRUMP" with the caption "Jeffrey showing early talents with money + women! Sells 'fully depreciated' [redacted] to Donald Trump for $22,500." Hmm, I wonder who that could be?
Surely there must be evidence directly implicating identifiable men in the sexual abuse of underage girls, though we have yet to see it. But what all this does prove is that the Democratic administrations were just as capable of the present shitshow of protecting the rich and powerful, and that there are indeed two very different standards of justice in this country. And yes, there was indeed a global ring trafficking underage victims to powerful people, but they weren't children, rather teenage girls; nobody was killing them to extract an arcane substance from their blood; and Hillary Clinton, Tom Hanks, and a D.C. pizza restaurant had nothing to do with it. On the other hand, the Q-anon Emperor God who was supposed to expose and execute them all did have a lot to do with it.
This is just one more addition to the irrefutable case that Merrick Garland is a waste of oxygen. It's possible that Joe Biden didn't know anything about it, but I would have thought better of Eric Holder, and I obviously should not have. We'll see what more comes out but I know enough already to deepen my cynicism. That, I did not need.

A whole lot of "powerful white men" (i.e., Caucasian men in positions of power) were obviously involved with Epstein's sex-trafficking machine. This is one more powerful "smoking gun" that shows the Republicrats are all members of one big Caucasian party. As a friend of mine from Detroit (yes, he has brown skin) says of every aspect of the current shit show, "This is a 'y'all' thing." How correct he is. The same society that started out with a genocide and moved on to enslavement can't face its own past and is now trying to erase it per "the lost cause." It NEEDS to be lost, forever. That will take courage and activism. As a friend said today, most people in America aren't doing shit, however, to change things and scrub the rot at the core of our nation. People are too damned busy/unconcerned/tied up in the daily details of their lives. The activism of the '60s seems like a dream at a time when we need to confront our history and protect voting rights, prioritize environmental causes, deal a death knell to racism, abolish the current supreme court, impeach the resident of the White House, vote Republicans out of office and release all files connected to Epstein the rapist.
What will it take? It'll be too late to wrest power from the hands of right-wingnuts by the time most people realize they've been screwed. Where are the leaders? Our society has been fragmented by TV, the internet, suburbs, cars and highways and the horror of Fox, the control of which has just been handed to the evil son of the rotten father.
Doctors protect incompetent doctors, police protect sadistic policemen; why be surprised when the rich and powerful protect their substandard rich and powerful friends? As we learned in every club, frat, business, or lodge we belonged to, "Don't rat on your brothers/coworkers!". "Don't snitch" is the First Commandment of every social organization. If you are successful it's easy to tell yourself it was due to some awesome personal qualities you possessed. Ergo other successful people have their own awesomeness; ergo we are a congregation of the elect; ergo "Don't snitch".
I remember an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation in which a Romulan General defects to warn the Federation of a devious sneak attack planned by his people. Captain Picard uses the information, but rejects the messenger for this very reason. Captain Picard! an almost Christ-like icon!
