It's a response to a tedious, turgid and tendentious screed by Richard Dawkins, so if you haven't read that it might not completely make sense but I think you'll get the idea.
What I could have written, more succinctly, is this.
You can define sex in such a way that it's impossible for a person to change it. Okay.
However, when you go on to say that gender means the same thing as sex, ergo it's impossible to change your gender, we are not speaking the same language. Gender does not mean the same thing as biological sex. It is a sociological and psychological category that is related to sex, but is not concordant with it. It exists, it is real, it matters a lot to people, but as a biologist, you don't know anything about it, because it is not a biological category.
