Holier than thou

I will juxtapose two seemingly unrelated news stories. It seems that Tommy Tuberville, whose qualification to be a U.S. Senator was coaching football, is single handedly preventing the confirmation of high ranking military officers because the military provides troops with access to abortion, which is mentioned exactly once in the entire Bible, Old Testament and New -- specifically in Numbers 5 which prescribes a ceremony for the purpose of inducing abortion:

Tuberville’s objection has thrown a wrench in what is usually a routine Senate maneuver in which hundreds of military nominations are confirmed all at once under a process known as unanimous consent. If Tuberville continues to hold out, the Senate would have to vote on hundreds of Pentagon nominations one at a time — a process that a Democratic Senate aide said could take a year to get through.

“This political showmanship could have a serious impact on our military readiness, on our military forces, and on our national security,” a National Security Council spokesman told CNN.

Among the more than 180 nominations pending right now are some of the military’s most critical positions, including the commanders of 7th Fleet, in the Indo-Pacific, and 5th Fleet, which is part of Naval Forces Central Command. It also includes the military representative to NATO, at a critical time with the war in Ukraine.

The Senate approves tens of thousands of civilian and military nominations every year.

In total, roughly 650 general and flag officers will require Senate confirmation by the end of the year, according to a senior defense official, including three of the four current military service chiefs, as well as chairman of the joint chiefs and the vice chief of staff of the Air Force.

“If this hold continues, the military is not going to have any” confirmed senior leaders, a Democratic aide said.

But he's a Christian, which gives him superior moral authority.

More than 150 priests and others associated with the Archdiocese of Baltimore are accused of sexually abusing more than 600 children in a newly released report from Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown.

The report, which examined thousands of documents dating back to the 1940s, states that the number of abused children is “likely far higher” than 600.

“The sheer number of abusers and victims, the depravity of the abusers’ conduct, and the frequency with which known abusers were given the opportunity to continue preying upon children are astonishing,” read the report.

“While every victim’s story is unique, together they reveal themes and behaviors typical of adults who sexually abuse children, and of those who enable abuse by concealing it,” read the report. “What was consistent throughout was the absolute authority and power these abusive priests and church leadership held over victims, their families and their communities.”

The 463-page report offers detailed accounts of the abuse, as well as the impact that abuse had on victims – some of whom faced substance abuse, depression, anxiety, attempted suicide and other mental health conditions and challenges in the years after.

The world will be much better when we leave this primitive superstition behind.

What concerns me is the military circumventing state laws with taxpayer money.

And the argument of expediency is the same one used for plea bargaining. Don't like any of it.

All I can say is, "A(-fucking-)men."

I've had it with Christianity. Fuck Christianity. It's a horrible, pagan-based, cannibalistic lie. And that's it. Can't wait till it's gone.

I don't like religion in general. But Christianity is the worst because it's responsible for so much abuse, death and destruction. I can see why it spread ... any religion that preached some bullshit that people who were so unhappy down here on Earth were going to be happy forever -- AFTERWARD -- was bound to be gobbled up by the gullible and the downtrodden.

But it's gotta go ... just like the Republican party. No wonder the two are entwined. So many Caucasians don't have a BULLSHIT DETECTOR. If we could harness all the bullshit as a power source, we'd be off coal, oil and nuclear power within a year.

Actually the military is not circumventing state law. It's giving women the right to travel.

This is a workaround the same as federal government that can't tell states what to do bullies them by threatening to cut off some funds if they don't comply. Circumvention of the Constitution.

And YES, military actively giving time off for travel for an abortion is a workaround and does, indeed, circumvent the intention of state laws passed through a democratic process by their elected representatives.

I really don't give a shit about abortion one way or the other. What I don't like is the bullying by the feds. We are the United States, not Republic of America.

I'm all about the process and democracy. You seem to be about getting the desired results you want.

I think you're totally missing the point. Military personnel don't get to choose where they are stationed. Allowing them to travel to obtain a service that is legal in the place to which they are going obviously does not in any way circumvent state law. As for imposing conditions on federal funding, the states don't have to take it if they don't want it.The funding is appropriated by congress, in which they have representation. That is absolutely consistent with the constitution as the SC has ruled consistently, forever.
